Hello, phoenix soul.
I'm so glad you're here.

I'm Amanda Fall: creator, editor, & publisher of The Phoenix Soul.

I am chief gatherer of good.
Sacred-seeker.
Joy-finder.
Heart-on-her-sleever.

Phoenix, I used to smother my light. I hated what made me different, thinking I was born to fit in. I resisted and refused all that made me who I am (quietness, introversion, creativity, and more). But now I understand that the world needs our uniqueness. And the vulnerability we are taught to hide? It's actually our strength. When we dare to rise, to embrace the luscious complexity of our unique truth--the divine spark of us, radiating from our core--we free our unapologetic fire, our true beauty, our messy grace. Our phoenix souls

Now I'm on a mission to unite us: rebel hearts. Misfit dreamers. Wild phoenix souls.

When we are brave enough to honor our {true} selves . . .
we can heal ourselves, and heal the world.

I yearn to remind you, phoenix, that you are never alone. To give you (and me) a sanctuary where we are seen, heard, respected, and honored exactly as we are. To support and sustain your true self. To choose, again and again, our daily rebirth--a breath-by-breath insistence on living with intention, meaning, depth, purpose, passion, and holy conviction . . . in all our aching, healing, howling, singing beauty. We are trusted tribe. We are forever flock. We are phoenix.

Bear witness to your life’s abiding truth: the holy heart of you, buried beneath the ache and shuffle of daily dust. Wash yourself in the river of witness, my love, singing your being into the open. Hide no more your hurt, your healings-to-be . . .
— Amanda Fall, Witness (issue 38)

The Phoenix Soul is my long-held dream come to life. I pour my heart and soul into these pages, tip-tapping away at my keyboard on my colorful desk (sometimes with Kiki-the-cat sprawled over my arm), sipping countless cups of coffee or pink smoothies.

When I'm not writing, editing, emailing contributors, proofing, networking, creating our mixed media backgrounds, blogging, or marketing (deep breath), I adore riding two-up with my best-friend-husband through the Black Hills of South Dakota on our cherry red motorcycle. My heart also pitter-pats for time reading under a canopy of green, bicycling by our local creek, or paint-splattering my hands in art journal play.

Amanda is the real thing! Love that girl and what she brings into the world!

I believe:

  • your messy, complicated, richly layered life is beautiful . . . just as it is
  • your story matters . . . the one only you were born to tell
  • our everyday world shimmers with magic and mystery (if only we look)
  • beauty and blessing wait in the holy here and now
  • we can cultivate hope and healing, even/especially among our bumps and bruises
  • the divine (Spirit, the Cosmic Glue, the Mystery, Love, God) speaks in exactly the language we need (no matter how unexpected), & embracing our own unique dance with doubt/faith is essential
  • you + me + we are stronger together than we could ever be apart

As a painfully shy little girl, I found solace in the world of words and companions in trees taller than myself. My mother (and then-homeschool teacher) taught me every moment is worth living, and that our whole worlds sparkle if we just begin to look. Although I have struggled with deep sadness, social anxiety, and high sensitivity, I am teary-eyed grateful to be HERE, now, discovering hope and healing in the everyday presence of the divine.

Finally I am able to embrace where and who I am: shy, sensitive, quiet, blue-sky dreamer. Writer, artist, editor, listener, wanderer, truth-speaker, Spirit-seeker. I am wife, daughter, sister. This gentle point of view enables me to see the world through a filter of grace. The Phoenix Soul is my heart on the page, bringing you + me together across the miles, where we can find strength in community, inspiring and uplifting one another. This world is messy, real, divinely blessed, joyful, and perfectly imperfect.

I love to scrawl handwritten notes in our pages. Yes, we're digital, but these pages are real . . . my heart to yours, my whisper in your ear. Gentle reminders (yes, I need to hear them, too). Grace-notes. We are companions in the wandering way. Here in The Phoenix Soul, we seek magic and mystery in our mundane. We gather tiny moments like miracles, rooted firmly in the holy here. We live with unapologetic stars in our eyes. We embrace our vulnerability as strength. We believe beauty waits right in the middle of our mess. Here. Now.
